Give a gift that keeps on giving this Christmas

THE GV HEALTH FOUNDATION IS SET TO LAUNCH AN ONLINE CHRISTMAS APPEAL THIS MONTH, ENABLING THE COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT THE HEALTH SERVICE DURING ITS HUGE REDEVELOPMENT BY PURCHASING A GIFT FOR PATIENTS.
There are many exciting changes happening at Goulburn Valley Health, particularly the ongoing $229 million redevelopment in Graham St, Shepparton.
While the huge pool of funding from the Victorian Government will ensure Stage 1 of the redevelopment is completed, GV Health’s executive director of operations Donna Sherringham explained how the funding was distributed.
“A large portion of the $229 million funding will be used for the construction and build,” she said.
“A portion of the funds is put aside for furnishing, fit-out and equipment.
“But because it is an expansion, we need to replace a lot of existing equipment.”
Ms Sherringham said healthcare equipment often had a lifespan of about 10 years and for that reason many of the existing equipment would need to be replaced to ensure it was compatible with the new facilities, once completed.
“For example the towers in the theatre that hold all of the equipment have reached their age,” she said.
“We now need new ones to be able to match with the new theatres as well.”
To assist GV Health with its ongoing need to replace equipment, the GV Health Foundation will this month launch its online Christmas Appeal where individuals, groups, businesses and organisations can buy a gift that keeps on giving this festive season.
GV Health Foundation Director Carmel Johnson said it was a fantastic way for the community to feel involved in the redevelopment.
“For the past 30 years, GV Health Foundation has contributed the community’s generous donations, bequests and grants towards supporting vital medical equipment and delivering quality patient care and comfort,” she said.
“With the exciting growth of our health service, now more than ever we need our community’s support to purchase key everyday items including wheelchairs, pillows, bedpans, stethoscopes, beds and so much more.
“We are excited to bring our community along for the journey as we grow and strive to make our health service the best it can be for our patients.”
Ms Sherringham said it was crucial for GV Health to update its equipment in order to provide the community with the best level of care possible.
“We need to continue to replace our equipment,” she said.
“If we didn’t have the GV Health Foundation and community’s support, we wouldn’t be able to continue to do what we do and provide the best care possible with the latest technology.”
In the past, the Goulburn Valley community has thrown its support behind previous construction projects at GV Health’s Graham St site, including a huge campaign to fund the Child and Adolescent Unit and more recently the Peter Copulos Cancer & Wellness Centre.
