Help make our dental van stand out
Published at: 07 Aug 2019
Coinciding with Dental Health Week, GV Health is inviting people to create a new design for its dental van.
GV Health dental practise manager Lorraine Olsson said they had created a competition, open to anyone, to design the van with something to do with looking after your teeth.
She said the van travelled to local kindergartens and schools with a therapist and assistant to desensitise the children to the dentist.
"We want to show dentists are nice, friendly, happy people; they're not scary," Ms Ollson said.
"They get a ride in the chair and go home with a bag of goodies."
Ms Ollson said the van also travelled to aged care facilities across the district.
This year's Dental Health Week runs from August 5-11 with the theme 'how's your oral health tracking?'.
GV Health health promotion officer Lucy Stephens said people were being encouraged to think about the last time they visited the dentist or undertook good dental hygiene practises.
"People should be drinking lots of water, reducing their sugar intake, brushing twice a day with fluoridated toothpaste...and seeing a oral health professional," she said.
Ms Stephens said they had contacted local schools and kindergartens with entry forms for the competition which is open until Saturday August 31.
A winner will be judged by the dental team of more than 40 staff and will be announced in mid-September.
Entries will be displayed at the GV Health Dental Clinic.
